Summer on the Ridge: Stargazing, Slow Mornings, and a Dome Above the Trees
Summer at The Overlook moves at a different pace. The sun stays up late, the cicadas take over after dark, and the ridgetop breeze does the work your AC normally would. It's the kind of weekend that resets you.
Dark Skies, Up Close
The Red River Gorge sits far enough from city light that the Milky Way is genuinely visible on clear nights. Pull a blanket onto the deck, kill the dome lights, and give your eyes about 15 minutes — the sky will do the rest.
Mornings Worth Waking Up For
We always tell guests: set an alarm at least one morning. Sunrise from the ridge rolls fog off the valley in slow motion, and you've got a front-row seat from your bed.
What to Do (and Not Do)
Hike Auxier Ridge in the cool of the morning. Grab lunch in Slade. Float the river in the afternoon. Then — and this is important — do nothing for the rest of the day. The dome was built for it.
